Proposed "meaningful use" rules just the tip of the iceberg in new federal healthcare IT actions

Just in time for its years-end deadline, the Federal government released new rules for "meaningful use" governing implementation of incentive funding for the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid EHR programs. The 60-da6 comment period is now under way.
That was the most long-awaited action, but far from the only one. It has also announced new implementation grants to 8 states and the US Virgin islands, as well as new economic stimulus funding for healthcare IT research and workforce development.
